Approximately 30% of victims are abused by a family member….

60% of victims are abused by someone the family knows and trust….

Approximately 40% of victims are abused by an older or larger child whom they know….

More than 50% of victims abused by older or larger children are under the age of 12

90% of children who are sexually abused know their abuser

80% of child sex abuse occurs in one on one settings

The median age for reported abuse is 9 years old….

More than 20% of children are sexually abused before the age of 8….

Nearly 50% of all victims of forcible sodomy, sexual assault with an object, and forcible fondling are children under the age of 12….

Over 60% of victims NEVER disclose their abuse to ANYONE….

80% of victims initially deny abuse or are tentative in disclosing…of those that do disclose, 75% do it accidentally, and more than 20% eventually recant even though the abuse DID occur.

Fabricated sexual abuse account for only 1% to 4% of all reported cases.  75% are reported by adults and 25% are reported by children.  Children only fabricate 1/2 % (0.5 percent) of the time.

Children who keep it a secret, or they tell and aren’t believed, are at greater risk than the general population for psychological, emotional, physical, and social problems lasting into adulthood….

Serial child molesters can have upward 400 victims in their lifetime….

60% of all teen pregnancies is preceded by experiences of molestation, rape, or attempted rape….

Sexually abused children often become dependent on alcohol and drugs, develop eating disorder, suffer from depression, experience suicidal thoughts, and engage in risky and promiscuous sexual behavior (incl sex in exchange for money).
